Revelation 12
The seventh trumpet: (ii) The sign of the woman
12 1-2 Then a huge sign became visible in the sky—the figure of a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars upon her head. She was pregnant, and cried out in her labour and in the pains of bringing forth her child.
The seventh trumpet: (iii) The dragon, the enemy of the woman
3-4 Then another sign became visible in the sky, and I saw that it was a huge red dragon with seven heads and ten horns, with a diadem upon each of his heads. His tail swept down a third of the stars in the sky and hurled them upon the earth. The dragon took his place in front of the woman who was about to give birth to a child, so that as soon as she did so he might devour it.
5-6 She gave birth to a male child who is to shepherd all the nations “with a rod of iron”. Her child was snatched up to God and to his throne, while the woman fled into the desert where she has a place prepared for her by God’s command. There they will take care of her for twelve hundred and sixty days.
War in Heaven
7-9 The war broke out in Heaven. Michael and his angels battled with the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought back, but they did not prevail and they were expelled from Heaven. So the huge dragon, the serpent of ancient times, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world, was hurled down upon the earth, and his angels were hurled down with him.
The victory of Heaven proclaimed
10-11 Then I heard a great voice in Heaven cry: “Now the salvation and the power and kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ have come! For the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down from this place, where he stood before our God accusing them day and night. Now they have conquered him through the blood of the Lamb, and through the Word to which they bore witness. They did not cherish life even in the face of death!
12 “Therefore, rejoice, O Heavens, and all you who live in the Heavens! But alas for the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you in great fury, knowing that his time is short!”
The dragon’s enmity against the woman
13-14 And when the dragon saw that he had been cast down upon the earth, he began to pursue the woman who had given birth to the male child. But she was given two great eagle’s wings so that she could fly to her place in the desert, where she is kept safe from the serpent for a time and times and half a time.
15-17 Then the serpent ejected water from his mouth, streaming like a river in pursuit of the woman, to drown her in its flood. But the earth came to the woman’s rescue, opened its mouth and swallowed up the river which the dragon had emitted from his mouth. Then the dragon raged with fury against the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her children—those who keep the commandments of God and bear their witness to Jesus.
Supplied Life Devotional by Bill Freeman
"For ye received not the spirit of bondage again unto fear; but ye received the spirit of sonship, whereby we cry, Abba, Father." Romans 8:15 (ASV)
There are two sister verses in the New Testament that show us the two spirits. In Romans 8:15 we see "a spirit of sonship," and in Galatians 4:6 we see "the Spirit of His Son." To understand these two spirits, we need to carefully consider both verses. Romans 8:15 says, "For ye received not the spirit of bondage again unto fear; but ye received the spirit of sonship, whereby we cry, Abba, Father." And Galatians 4:6 says, "And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, Abba, Father!" When we compare these two verses we have to ask, who is doing the crying? In the Galatians verse the Son is crying, but in the Romans verse we are doing the crying. The reason for the apparent contradiction is simply that the two spirits are mingled into one. From one angle it is the Son crying; from another angle it is our crying. These are not two separate cryings. It is only one crying due to the mingling and oneness of the two spirits. The Son's crying is mingled with our crying, and His crying does not happen apart from our crying.
When we ask how the church becomes the reality of Christ, the answer is the mingled spirit! Christ lives in us and moves through us as we give Him the track of our spirit. For example, our praying is His praying (Rom. 8:26- 27, 34), our preaching is His preaching (2 Cor. 5:20), our witnessing is His witnessing (Matt. 10:19- 20), our love is His love (1 John 4:12), our experiences are His experiences (2 Cor. 4:10- 11). Christ is all and in all! This is the church. It is Christ
